In Japan, there are various celebratory events after birth.
When a child is born, there is "miyamairi"(Shrine visit) to celebrate the birth, "shichigosan" to wish for growth, and "coming-of-age ceremony" to celebrate the 20-year-old's coming of age.
And when a person gets married, there is the "wedding ceremony" and so on.
Kimonos are worn for such life events and celebrations.
Some of the patterns are also used to express wishes for the growth of the child, or to express congratulatory feelings.
