Here we provide you some hints for sizes and fits on yukata, kimono, and sandals. Please refer to this page if you are struggling with which size suits you the best.
YUKATA AND KIMONO
Yukata and kimono are often offered in a free size. This is because normally, sizes including the length of the kimono are adjusted using a waist cord (koshihimo). Please choose the yukata or kimono which is close to your size. Please refer below for detailed kimono size hints.
*Please note:
regular size yukata, kimonos (excluding plus size yukata, kimonos) are perfect for those whose height is between 4’9” to 5’9” (150cm~180cm) with whose waist is up to 50” (127cm).
SIZE HINTS
LENGTH FIT CHECK
- Check the kimono length of yukata, kimono you want to purchase
- Measure length from the base of your neck to your heel
- If kimono length minus length of the neck to heel is;
Length difference | How much do you need to tuck up? |

Over 11.8 inches (30cm) | Wear the kimono by tucking up quite far at the waist. |
Between 7.8 to 11.8 inches (20cm~30cm) | Wear the kimono by tucking up a normal amount at the waist. |
Approximately 3.9 inches (10cm) | Wear the kimono by tucking up a little at the waist to adjust. |
Almost 0 inches (0cm) | Wear the kimono without tucking up at all. |
WAIST FIT CHECK
- Measure around your hips
- Check width measurement for the item you want to purchase
- If clothing width minus your hip size is;

Between 9.8 to 15.3 inches (25cm to 39cm) | Fits but slightly tight |
Less than 9.8 inches (25cm) | This item won’t fit you. Please find another size. |
ADJUSTING KIMONO
To adjust the kimono, yukata, you will use a waist cord (koshihimo). Koshihimo will be hidden in the end.
- Tuck up the right side of the kimono and adjust the hem to cover your ankle.
- Wrap left side over and match? the hem with the right side.
- Tie a waist cord around your waist under the extra fabric.

GETA, ZORI SANDALS SIZES
TRADITIONAL FIT:
Please select geta/ zori sandals 1 inch (2~3cm) shorter than your foot size.
It may feel uncomfortable at first with heels sticking out. However, there are some reasons why it is appropriate traditionally. First, you will look beautiful in total coordinate balancing out with yukata/ kimono. Second, for safety so that the hem of the kimono is not caught. As you wear them multiple times, you will get used to it and feel it is easy to move with your weight.

YUKATA AND KIMONO
Select the kimono with a length that matches your height. When there are no kimono exactly with your height, get the one that is slightly longer. A few inches difference can be folded up and adjust it using a waist cord (koshihimo). The waist can be adjusted freely. Please refer below for detailed kimono size hints.

- Check the kimono length of yukata, kimono you want to purchase
- Measure length from the base of your neck to your heel
- Length should be almost the same as your length from neck to heel.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR LENGTH
- Stand up straight
- Measure length from the base or your neck to your ankle
(Recommend using a soft tape measure to determine the accurate length)
Formal and Casual:
Your height minus 30-35cm (12-14 inches) = Kimono Length
Very casual (short):
Your height minus 35-40cm (14-16 inches) = Kimono Length
WAIST FIT CHECK
- Measure around your hips.
- Check width measurement for the item you want to purchase.
- If clothing width minus your hip size is;

SLEEVES FIT CHECK
- Check the sleeve length of the kimono, yukata you want to purchase
(The sleeve length is measured from the back seam on the neck to the end of the sleeve) - The sleeve length should be a little bit shorter than your wrist.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR SLEEVE LENGTH
- Open your arms diagonally at 45 degrees, straighten your back and stand firmly
- Measured from the center seam on the back of the kimono (at the base of the neck) to the end of the sleeve. Be sure to pass though your shoulders.
ADJUSTING KIMONO
To adjust kimono, yukata, you will use waist cord (koshihimo).
- Bring both sides forward and make sure it is at equal height.
- Wrap left side over and match? the hem with the right side.
- Tie a waist cord around your waist under the extra fabric.
