"KUMIKO"

KUMIKO is one of Japanese traditional crafts and techniques from Kyoto. Craftsmen hand-made one by one without using nails nor glue. The key to manufacturing KUMIKO is its unique holes and the gaps in the pieces. By combining multiple pieces, craftsmen produce more than two hundred pattern designs.

During the process, even a 0.1mm error is crucial. Thus KUMIKO craftsmen's extraordinary skills and techniques are essential in crafting KUMIKO. In addition to the skills and techniques, knowledge of characteristics of Japanese woods highly influences the completion of KUMIKO making. Usually, KUMIKO craftsmen spend more than 10 years mastering the skill.]

The origin of KUMIKO is known to be the Asuka era, and the earliest KUMIKO of Japan is in the Kondo of Horyuji Temple. Until today, the charm of the KUMIKO has been passed on by craftsmen. Carefully crafted and assembled KUMIKO will last for a long time.

Care Instructions

Avoid fire, humid area and close to water.
Do not give a strong impact.
Avoid direct sunlight as much as possible.
Since wood is a natural material, there are individual differences in grain and color.
Because it is a plain wood, it will change color over time, but you can enjoy your own Kumiko work with seeing flow of time in it.

[Aroma Wood]
・ If you drop 2-3 drops on the edge, the scent will last for 2-3 days.
・ Avoid using aroma oils such as citrus-based liquids that have a color, or applying a large amount of aroma oils at once as they may cause stains.
・ Please keep in mind that the color of the wood becomes darker in the part where the aroma is continuously applied. 
・ In order to maintain quality, please apply aroma to the edge of the main body. Other than the edges, the quality may not be maintained due to the expansion and contraction of the wood.
・ If you are concerned about the stickiness of the oil, wipe it off with a slightly wet cloth, then wipe it off with a dry wipe. Never wash with water.
・ Since it does not use fire or electricity, you can use it with confidence regardless of location. It is difficult to spread over a wide area like an electronic diffuser, but you can enjoy the aroma that is gently scented by the movement of people and the wind from the window.
